September 1981 - June 1986
Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands (5-year curriculum):

  • Master study in the Computational Mechanics Department, followed graduate courses in (fluid) mechanics, materials science and applied physics.

  • Traineeship: study of a non-linear dynamic system with dry (Coulomb) friction.

  • Graduation project: stability analysis of a non-linear hydrodynamic journal-bearing system using the Hopf bifurcation theory. Developed software was later incorporated in DIANA software code (STRDYN module), and the study is published in an international refereed journal.

September 7, 1990
PhD degree in Technical Sciences, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands. Title: Film models for transport phenomena with fog formation, with application to plastic heat exchangers and condensers. Supervisors: Prof. dr. A.K. Chesters (Department of Applied Physics) and Prof. dr. ir. J. Berghmans (Catholic University of Louvain).
